Obituary: Joseph Malone

Joseph Vincent Malone, Jr, 85, of Greenwich, CT passed away at King Street Rehab on September 20, 2022. Joe was born in Port Chester on September 25, 1936, to Elizabeth Nethercott and Joseph Vincent Malone. He went through the Port Chester public school system starting at Edison School, the Junior High and graduated from Port Chester Senior High School in 1954. In 1961 Joe married Virginia Sheridan at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester.

Joe worked for 42 years in the construction business as a bricklayer and cement finisher with P. W. Nethercott in Port Chester. While working he attended Mechanics Institute in New York City at night, graduating in 1961. He joined Washington Engine and Hose Company #4, Inc. on February 6, 1959. He held parliamentary offices and served as Secretary for 23 years. Joe was a volunteer member of the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts for 32 years and served as Advancement Chairman and Campmaster at the Seton Reservation. He also was an active volunteer at St. Paul Church. Joe enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and around the world and working in his garden. He enjoyed athletics and played softball on Port Chester and Greenwich town teams.

Joe was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife, Virginia, and three children: Kerry Malone (Albert Wagelmans) of Schiedam, the Netherlands, Wendy Burgess of Sydney, Australia, and Timothy of Stamford, Connecticut; four grandchildren: William and Emily Burgess and Rory and Kyran Malone. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Leuthardt of East Moriches, NY, and nephews Peter, John, and Rev. Henry Leuthardt.

The visitation will be on Monday, September 26 from 4 to 8pm at Craft Memorial Home, Inc., Port Chester, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 27 at 1pm at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Greenwich, followed by burial at St. Mary’s/Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich.
