Logan B. Hill, 24, of 1408 Township Road 132, West Mansfield, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest related to an incident Monday afternoon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office first were dispatched about 3:50 p.m. to Hill’s residence on a well-being check, with deputies advised that Hill possibly had a firearm and was making threats.
En route to his residence, however, deputies observed his vehicle traveling in the area of State Route 540 near Township Road 126, and then lost sight of the vehicle. The vehicle was observed again in the area of S.R. 540 and County Road 5, but deputies said the operator evaded them.
About 5:30 p.m., deputies located the vehicle at the Zanesfield Cemetery, 4912 County Road 153. Deputies announced their presence over the cruiser’s PA system and asked Hill to make himself known.
Deputies then observed the defendant crawling on the ground in the cemetery and he was asked to stop and show deputies his hands. He eventually stopped and showed deputies his hands, but then resisted their efforts to place him under arrest.
After multiple commands to comply were given, K9 Thor was deployed and the dog bit Hill’s left arm and hand. The defendant was then placed in handcuffs and deputies noted a strong odor of alcohol on his person.
Tri-Valley EMS and Perry Township EMS responded to the scene to render medical attention to Hill’s injuries. He was transported by deputies to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was treated and released and then was transported to the Logan County Jail.
A weapon was not located in the immediate area where the arrest took place; however, K9 Thor located a box containing a handgun near the entrance to the cemetery.
A report has been forwarded to the Bellefontaine Municipal Prosecutor’s Office for review of an additional charge of using weapons while intoxicated.
Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted at the scene.
