Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will reunite for Deadpool 3

In 2017, Hugh Jackman hung up his adamantium claws and retired from the role of Wolverine after a moving performance in Logan. But old X-Men never stay dead forever. Earlier today, Ryan Reynolds posted a video in which he apologized to fans for the lack of Deadpool 3 news at D23 Expo. But he made up for it by facetiously confessing to having no idea what to do for the third movie … except to bring Jackman back as Wolverine.

Jackman briefly appears in the video as he casually agrees to reprise his signature role for the 10th time. X-Men was Jackman’s big break in 2000, and it helped usher in the current age of comic book movies. Jackman also held the record for portraying the same superhero on the big screen for 17 years. Now, that record is going to be extended to 24 years.

There are, of course, some questions about how Wolverine will be integrated into the film, especially since Marvel is likely to cast a much younger actor in the role for the inevitable X-Men reboot movie. But the Deadpool movies are all about irreverent humor, so the plot details don’t even matter as long as he’s there.

In the video, Reynolds also debuted the logo for Deadpool 3, which cleverly uses the slashes from Wolverine’s claws to give it the number 3. Hopefully that’s an indication that Jackman will have much more than a cameo appearance. He is also the third actor from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies to reprise his role in the MCU. Evan Peters appeared as a fake Quicksilver in WandaVision, while Patrick Stewart had a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has previously worked with Jackman on Real Steel and Reynolds on The Adam Project. That may have also played a role in getting Jackman and Reynolds back together for the first time since the latter made his debut as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also coming back for the sequel.

Marvel Studios will release Deadpool 3 on September 6, 2024.

James Gunn made 600 versions of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Do you love any film enough to watch it 600 times? Because according to The Hollywood Reporter, director James Gunn has created 600 unique versions of his final Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, there's no need to freak out and try to watch every single version. Gunn didn't change any scenes or plot points between them. Instead, this effort was meant to ensure that movie lovers will get to see the film in the best aspect ratio possible in any given theater.

If 600 versions sound like a lot, keep in mind that James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water reportedly had 1,065 versions in theaters all over the world. Gunn's Guardians variations are a record for a Marvel movie, and he apparently played with the way the aspect ratio will change during the movie itself. For example, the first 45 minutes of the movie was shot in a flat 1.85 aspect ratio, while the remaining parts of the film are in a 2.39 ratio. This means that Gunn specifically picked moments in the later part of the movie where the action on-screen will appear to get bigger.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler will produce Ironheart

In 2018, director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther became one of Marvel's most successful films and earned the studio its first-ever Best Picture nomination. Coogler is currently finishing the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ahead of its release later this year. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler is expanding his relationship with Marvel Studios by executive producing the upcoming Disney+ original series Ironheart.

Created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato in 2016, Ironheart is the alter ego of Riri Williams, a 15-year-old tech genius enrolled at MIT. Riri managed to reverse engineer Tony Stark's Iron Man armor and create her own suit. Stark was so impressed by Riri that he endorsed her desire to become a superhero. In the series, Dominique Thorne will play Riri, a role that she will originate in Wakanda Forever.

It's official: Deadpool 3 finally has a director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Free Guy helmer Shawn Levy is in talks to reunite with Ryan Reynolds for the new Deadpool sequel.

Levy and Reynolds have previously collaborated on both Free Guy and Netflix's The Adam Project, which was released today. And there's more good news for fans of the first two Deadpool movies: Original screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are now back on Deadpool 3. They are replacing Bob's Burgers scribes Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, who wrote the previous draft of Deadpool 3.
