Video shows Browns' Myles Garrett walking from crash; he has shoulder, biceps strain

Body-camera video released by the Medina County Sheriff's Office shows Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett walking to an ambulance after crashing his car on State Road on Monday.

Garrett suffered a shoulder sprain and a biceps strain as well as lacerations, the team confirmed Tuesday evening.

“First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday," General Manager Andrew Berry, executive vice president of football operations, said in a statement. "After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. Myles didn’t suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol.

“Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity,” he said. “Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”

Garrett was released from Cleveland Clinic Akron General on Monday night. Both Garrett and his unidentified female passenger were transported for medical treatment with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash.

Garrett was driving his 2021 Porsche southbound about 3 p.m. after he left the team's practice facility in Berea. His car went off the road around the 5600 block of State Road in Sharon Township, near Ridgewood Road.

He was taken to Akron General and his passenger was taken to the Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital, according to Beacon Journal partner News 5 Cleveland.

The 1:54 minute video posted by News 5 shows two firefighters treating Garrett, while a third is treating his passenger, whose face is edited out of the footage.

"Is that a bicep tendon?" one of the firefighters asks while examining Garrett's left arm.

Garrett's response is unclear, but he is later helped to his feet and walks on his own toward a rescue squad.

Garrett's agent, Nicole Lynn, said Garrett did not suffer any broken bones in the crash.

The patrol said impairment from alcohol and/or drugs is not suspected and that both Garrett and his passenger were wearing safety belts.

The passenger can be seen being treated by another firefighter. She is lying on her back with her knees up about 10 feet from the car, which shows extensive damage, including air bag deployment, a broken rear window and a crumpled rear bumper after having rolled over and coming to a stop well off the side of the road.

The patrol said the crash remains under investigation Tuesday and further information, including how fast Garrett had been driving, is not available.

Garrett, 26, who lives in Medina County, has played for the Browns since 2017, when they picked him first overall in the NFL Draft out of Texas A&M University. He has three sacks this season for the Browns (2-1), who will face the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) on the road Sunday.
