The football team at San Francisco’s Galileo Academy of Science and Technology has 21 players. The football team at Richmond High School is only marginally larger with 24 players.
With roster sizes that small, forfeits are not uncommon. Yet, Galileo’s forfeit against Richmond last Friday prompted a public outcry, unusual for Bay Area high school football, that is spilling into this week.
In Monday conversations with Eric Ting, school district officials speculated there’s more to Galileo’s forfeit than the program is letting on.
