BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A worker was injured in a fall Tuesday at the construction site of the new Missouri River bridge on Interstate 70.

A spokeswoman for the contractor Lunda Team, made up of four construction companies, said the worker suffered minor injuries in a fall into the water Tuesday morning. The worker was taken to a hospital for treatment, she said.

The spokeswoman said the accident happened because of an equipment malfunction but she did not have more details. She said she did not know how far the worker fell or the details of the worker's injuries.

The $240 million bridge replacement project is expected to be finished by December 2024.
