Hundreds of people have donated to an Alexandria family who asked the community for help in purchasing a vehicle.
As of Wednesday, the family has raised $5,000.
A Fairfax County, Va. teen wrote a heartbreaking apology letter to his mom on GoFundMe after he wrecked her car in an accident leaving her desperate for help.
Jordan Jennings, 19, made a plea to anyone who would read that he needed help to get his mother, Kimberly Marshall, a new car after he totaled it.
"Mom I love you and I'm so so sorry for totaling your car," Jennings wrote. "I see you every day trying your best to make sure me and my little sister are taken care of and you do it by yourself."
Jennings was driving home after cleaning the car when the accident happened in September.
"When I saw the damage, I was heartbroken," Jennings said.
Marshall, who works at an animal hospital in Fairfax County, said it takes her 30 minutes to drive to and from work each day. Now, she can't drive her car and her metro line in Alexandria is shut down because of work on the Blue and Yellow lines.
“I have been getting blessings, but unfortunately they are running dry right now,” Marshall said.
"As a single mom she carries the brunt of everything in the household so I know she can't afford a new car," Jennings said. "She has been trying her hardest since I can remember."
7News sat down with the family in an emotional interview.
“I don’t want much,” Marshall said while crying. “I just want to be able to take care of my kids and you have to have a job to do that."
Her son said they have no one to call for help.
“A car can be replaceable but he can not be replaced,” Marshall explained. “Once I realized he was OK, I was sad and disappointed, it just seems like it’s always something."
