The 22nd annual Peace Fair earlier this month showcased more than 30 area nonprofits, including A Woman’s Place, The Peace Center, NOVA, the YWCA and similar organizations in an atmosphere of fun and fellowship at Buckingham Friends Meeting in Lahaska. These and other groups were at the fair to promote peace, social justice, healthy living, education and a variety of other causes of interest to area residents.
Highlights of the fair included bluegrass music from Tookany Creek, the popular Latin band Eco del Sur, and Mindy Murray, of the River Drivers, with her original “songs of working people.” The poetry reading featured reigning Bucks County Poet Laureate Nicole Steinberg and poets from throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Families perused dozens of craft tables piled high with wood turnings, alpaca woolens, handmade pottery, Bonsai and carnivorous plants, acrylics and stained glass. Children enjoyed activities like the Peace Train, Fish Pond and dunking tank. Additionally, more than 50 youngsters in grades 3-8 donned bright blue Ambassador T-shirts and gold medallions and helped out with the many tasks needed to run the fair.
