SALT LAKE CITY — Three people working security at a concert venue in Salt Lake City's Ballpark neighborhood are facing charges accusing them of shooting a man outside the venue over the Fourth of July weekend.

Ryan Uiva Lua, 47, of West Jordan, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony; and 12 counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

Daniel Iosua, 30, of Kearns, was charged with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony; and six counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

Christopher Mapusaga Taliu, 25, of West Jordan, was charged with two counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.

On July 3, police were called to a shooting near 1485 S. Major Street. Officers located a 20-year-old man who was shot in the abdomen. He was hospitalized with critical injuries and underwent surgery. A gun was found in the victim's waistband while he was being treated, police said.

"Witnesses stated that they heard (the victim) yelling that someone was after him, at which time he fired his gun and kept running," according to charging documents.

Detectives reviewing surveillance video observed the victim pulling up to the Loading Dock concert venue, 1489 Major Street, with others about 5:20 a.m. The victim later told police that he arrived near the end of the party and was not allowed inside. One of the men with the victim got into a fight with another person in front of the venue, according to the charges. The victim then returned to his car and placed it in reverse, driving to the other side of the road.

While doing this, police say several people working as bouncers at the venue are seen in the video holding guns to their sides and watching the car. Lua then "is seen taking a shooting position and moving up behind" the car, the charges state.

Lua fired his gun 13 times at the car the victim was driving, Isoua then fired seven times and Taliu fired twice, according to the charges.

The victim told police he drew his gun after hearing shots fired, but "did not see where the gunshots were coming from and started to run as he was afraid for his life," the court documents state.
