RARITAN TWP., Pa. - Three people were hurt after a crash involving four vehicles, including a dump truck, in Hunterdon County, New Jersey Tuesday morning.

The Raritan Township Police Department said officers were dispatched to the area of Route 31 by mile marker 25 for a report of a crash involving three passenger vehicles and an overturned dump truck around 9:20 a.m.

According to witnesses and involved parties, an unknown vehicle was stopped on Route 31 northbound attempting to make a turn into 349 Route 31. Due to the grading of the roadway, which caused visibility issues, multiple vehicles had trouble stopping in time to avoid colliding with the vehicle, according to a news release from township police.

Township police say a dump truck carrying a load of sand approached the area and was unable to stop in time. The dump truck hit three vehicles, one of them traveling Route 31 southbound, before losing control and flipping onto its side, township police said.

First aid squads arrived on scene and transported three of the five occupants involved in the crash to the Hunterdon Medical Center for minor injuries, according to the news release. No one suffered life-threatening injuries.

NJ State DOT Diversion Team was called to assist cleaning up the sand that spilled onto the southbound lane of Route 31. All four vehicles were disabled as a result of the crash and towed by ADR Towing.

The Raritan Township Fire Department, Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office, Readington Township Police Department, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
