Wichita City Council members received an update Tuesday morning on the city's redistricting efforts.
The task for the seven-member Commission of Electors was to recommend district boundary revisions, to ensure each of the city’s six council districts represents roughly one-sixth of the city’s population. Redrawing the district boundaries happens every 10 years, after the latest U.S. Census data is released.
Wichita and Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department Director Scott Wadle said the commission began work in mid-July, and held 8 meetings to tackle the issue. They developed more than 20 potential concepts and eventually narrowed their work down to two maps. You can review them at the city’s web site and share your thoughts.
The city has until the end of the year to adopt one of the maps with the new boundaries.
