Jarrell woman dies in two-vehicle crash Monday morning in Callahan County

BAIRD − A Jarrell woman died and a Rockdale man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash about 5:30 a.m. Monday on State Highway 36, 12 miles south of here.

Justice of the Peace Tom Rumfield pronounced Megan Janea Murphy, 30, dead at the scene. She was the driver of one vehicle.

The driver of the other, 45-year-old Cory Ray Bush, was taken by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with incapacitating injuries, according to a Department of Public Safety statement.

The DPS reported that Bush's 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was eastbound on 36 when it crashed with a semi pulling a trailer that had stopped in the traffic lane.

Murphy's 2000 Ford Expedition SUV, also going east, then struck Bush's disabled vehicle.

The DPS did not report any injuries to the driver of the semi.

Murphy was wearing a seat belt but Bush at the time was not, the DPS stated.

The crash is being investigated.
