League: Central

Teams: Monson, Monument Mountain, Northampton, Granby, Lenox, Southwick, and Chicopee

Teams to watch: Across the league, the team expected to place at the top of the leaderboard remained pretty unanimous: Monson. Starting the season 6-0, the Mustangs are on track to do just that. Last season, Monson lost just one game, falling to Sutton in the Division V State Tournament. However, they did not end the season empty-handed, going undefeated throughout the regular season and winning the Western Mass. championship.

Monument Mountain is following closely behind Monson, recording a tie and a loss in its first two games of the season. Currently, they are riding a three-game winning streak and looking to stay close with Monson. Another team expected to be high in the standings was Northampton, who have started the season with three wins and three losses.

Players to watch: Due to their success last season and to start this year, Monson had many returning players that will help contribute to the success early. Sophomore Kendall Bodak finished last year with 13 goals and 15 assists, while already recording five goals and four assists this season. Freshman Hannah Murphy has paced the team’s offense with 15 goals and two assists, while Emmy Finnegan has 10 goals and two assists.

For Lenox, seniors Aida Nichols and Medeja Rudzinskaite, are expected to be leaders on the team, with Ella Hall in net being crucial for her team. Despite its early struggles, Granby’s Ella Laliberte and Katherine Vallee have aided on the offensive front.

Season expectations: Starting off strong, Monson’s goal is to qualify for both the Western Mass and State tournament, which based on its record proves they are well on their way. They will look to win a second consecutive Western Mass. championship and continue past the semifinals of the State Tournament. As for Lenox, it wants to stay healthy and battle to stay at the top of the league, competing with the other major competitors.
