Navy vet, Vietnamese refugee GOP candidate slams Biden for ‘demonizing’ GOP

A Vietnamese refugee who went on to serve as a U.S. Navy captain and who is now running for Congress in Virginia slammed President Joe Biden for “demonizing” Republican voters as “a threat to democracy.”

During an appearance on “America’s Newsroom,” retired Cpt. Hung Cao told Fox News host Bill Hemmer that he found Biden labeling Republican voters as “extremists” offensive.

“This is a President of the United States, who started by demonizing people who don’t agree with him and calling us extremists or calling us a threat to democracy,” Cao said. “I came here as refugee. I fought for our country in many battles and many wars, and they’re calling me the same name they would call a terrorist.”

“My opponent… doubles down on that, and that’s what she’s sending out on her mail is that Hung’s an extremist because I believe in the Constitution and believe in God,” he added.

Cao, who served in the special operations community, said he decided to run against incumbent Democrat Rep. Jennifer Wexton after the Biden administration’s deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan last year.

“Just watching Kabul fall last year just broke my heart watching mothers hand babies to Marines,” Cao said. “Just very reminiscent of what happened in Vietnam, and so that’s what really prompted me to run for office. But again, the economy is in shambles and this administration keeps doubling down on bad policy.”

In an interview earlier this year, Cao described how his family traveled to America “with nothing” after fleeing communism in Vietnam just before the fall of Saigon in 1975. Cao recalled that his mother would sew money into his and his siblings’ clothes just in case the family got separated.

“We clawed our way up and we made it work, and we harnessed all the opportunities this country gave us, and we didn’t take any handouts,” he said in a May interview with The Washington Post. “That resonates with all the people in this district, especially all the immigrants and minorities. And all hard-working Americans, not just minorities.”

Biden’s ongoing attacks against Republicans – a party that includes a congressional candidate who escaped Vietnamese communism – add to concerns that Biden is submissive to communism. The concerns come as communist China continues pushing to become the dominant global power within the next decade.
