An old friend may be punting for the Steelers on Sunday against the New York Jets at home.
According to reports, the Steelers are going to sign former Steelers punter Jordan Berry and he will start against the New York Jets. Berry is on the South Side at the Steelers facility.
Presley Harvin, who beat out Berry for the kicking job at the beginning of last season, is dealing with a hip injury. Tomlin didn’t completely rule him out, but signing Berry is an indication he would miss against the Jets.
Berry signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 and re-signed with the team before being released this past August.
The Melbourne, Australia native played college ball at Eastern Kentucky, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers in 2015.
Berry previously lost his job with the Steelers in September 2020 after they signed Dustin Colquitt, but he re-signed with Pittsburgh in October 2020.
An All-American and winter of the Ray Guy Award (the top college punter in the country) as a senior with Georgia Tech and was taken in the seventh-round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Harvin struggled his rookie year while dealing with the loss of his father.
This season Harvin has averaged 47.41 yards through the first three games of the season.
