The name of Gwyneth Paltrow’s “boyfriend breakfast frittata” originated during her courtship with her now-husband, Brad Falchuk. “When we were dating, we started this tradition of me cooking him breakfast every Saturday morning,” she explains. “I would come up with all of these really creative breakfasts. It was something I put time into every week planning. I called them boyfriend breakfasts.” The recipes for this specific egg dish, which includes turkey bacon, potato, spinach, and onions caramelized in ghee, was one of their perennial favorites.

Paltrow says she loves to spend time in the kitchen making things for the people she loves. She acknowledges that many view this as old-fashioned: “Can you be a feminist and still like to do domestic things?” she remembers once asking herself. Her answer: “If you have a consciousness of—you are doing something, you are taking care of something, because you love it.” That much is clear in her cooking tutorial with Vogue, where the sight of a dozen eggs from the farmers market sparks visible joy, as does the finished result, presented in her white-and-gold oval roaster.

In between her cooking demonstration, she also explains her and Falchuk’s morning routines. It starts at 6:30 a.m. with some meditation. If there’s time, it ends with an infrared sauna session (for her) and a cold plunge (for him). “I’m having a hard time,” says Paltrow of the latter method. “It's very, very cold.”

Below, a step-by-step video on how to make the hearty yet healthy breakfast, along with a recipe for Paltrow’s Goopglow morning skin super powder mocktail. (Her trick, she explains, is to whip it up in a shaker "so my brain thinks I’m having a morning martini.”) Make it for yourself, your partner, or your family—just like Paltrow will likely be doing today for her 50th birthday.
