Belton police: No shooter, no injuries at warehouse

BELTON, Mo. — Belton police investigated a report of an active shooter at a warehouse late Tuesday morning, but found no gunman or victims.

Officers responded to the Chewy Warehouse and Fulfillment Center shortly before 11 a.m., believing that’s where the emergency call came from. The warehouse is located in a business area near 155th Street and South Outer Road.

The department later clarified to say the call about the active shooter came from employees at Saddle Creek Warehouse, which is in the same area.

Investigators determined workers at Saddle Creek Warehouse overheard radio communications from an unknown source about an active shooter event and called the Belton Police Department.

Police said they cleared both warehouses, but didn’t locate a gunman, weapon or any victims.

“They have done an initial assessment. They have not found any victims or any evidence that anybody’s been injured at this time,” Davis said.

By 1 p.m. Tuesday, officials finished their work at both the Chewy warehouse and Saddle Creek Warehouse, and employees were allowed to return to work.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Cass County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in Belton.

Chewy released a statement about the scare.

“Even though the initial threat did not involve Chewy, our building was promptly evacuated out of an abundance of caution and cleared by the responding officers who determined there was no threat on site. The safety of our team members is our priority and we are thankful to our local law enforcement for their swift partnership,” the company said in a statement.

Belton police said both companies provided immediate access to the information necessary to conduct a through search of the warehouses.
