Meteorologists say the remnants of Hurricane Ian could bring beneficial rains to New Jersey.
Currently, 97% of the state is under drought conditions, including a severe drought in Monmouth County.
Millstone resident Nelson Hausman knows firsthand just how detrimental drought conditions have been on the Manasquan Reservoir.
“I don't ever remember this lake being this low. I mean, I could hardly get my boat off the trailer. I had to go off the end of the ramp,” he said.
Freehold resident Eric Dea hopes to see the area get some much-needed hydration.
“I think we need whatever water we can get at this point. So even if it is a little bit of flooding, I think it will get absorbed pretty quickly and flow into the natural water reserves that we have in the state,” he said.
“We've got to pray for rain,” said Jeffry Biemuller of Howell.
However, meteorologists say the type of rain is key. For the reservoir to truly benefit, there must be a several days of steady light to moderate rain, not a quick tropical deluge.
News 12 meteorologists will continue to track Hurricane Ian as the weekend approaches.
