Feeding America awards grants to Hopkinsville organizations

Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland has awarded grants to two hunger relief organizations in Hopkinsville.

The Pathfinder Pantry at Hopkinsville Community College received $32,310 and will use the money to buy a commercial freezer and to increase staff and expand operating hours, according to a press release from FAKH.

The HCC pantry opened in 2019.  “Their primary clients are single mothers, students and military families at Fort Campbell,” the release states.

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville was awarded $15,000 and will use the money to buy commercial refrigerator/freezer units. The nonprofit provided 41,164 meals through its soup kitchen last year.

The two local grants were part of $317,000 awarded to organizations serving Western Kentucky communities impacted by tornadoes December 2021 tornadoes.

“Our partner agencies stepped up to serve their tornado-affected neighbors in mighty ways and continue to serve them as they rebuild and look forward,” FAKH executive director Jamie Sizemore said in the release. “They are now building their capacity to break down barriers to service in their own communities as recovery continues.”
