The Syracuse Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Vincent Apartment Monday after the building’s fire alarm system provided an early warning.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire around 1 p.m. on 108 Roney Lane and arrived on the scene to find a three-story brick building with smoke coming from a third-story window.
Vincent Apartments is a property owned by Green National Properties; they also own the troubled Skyline Apartments in Syracuse.
Fire crews requested a full structure fire dispatch, adding more companies to the response, before making their way to the third floor of the building where they were met by heavy smoke.
They searched blindly through the smoke to find the apartment with the fire.
Fire crews entered the apartment with hoses to search for victims and extinguish the fire.
Firefighters successfully contained the fire while others searched the building for residents that may have been trapped by smoke.
Crews also checked to ensure no fire spread into other areas of the apartment building.
Fire crews remained on the scene, ventilating smoke and toxic gases from the apartment.
No injuries were reported in this incident, and one resident was displaced, according to fire crews.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Syracuse Fire Investigators.
