Road rage on south side leads to City’s latest homicide

OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — What started as a road rage incident on the south side ended as Oklahoma City’s latest homicide Monday with one person being booked for murder.

Jason Wayne Mercer, 35, has been booked on a first-degree murder complaint in the death of Felipe Palacios, 33.

Around 6:22 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) were called to the intersection of S.E. 43rd and High Streets.

Upon arrival they found Palacios who had already died from a gunshot wound according to OKCPD MSgt. Gary Knight in a press release.

Investigators believe that an altercation started when Palacios’ car broke down and was in the roadway. When Mercer came by the two got into an altercation.

Police believe that Mercer was angry about Palacios’ car blocking part of the roadway.

Mercer is accused of pulling a gun and shooting Palacios in the course of the altercation.

Police report that Mercer initially fled the scene but eventually came back and surrendered to them.
