Norwich Tech soccer comes up short against St. Bernard: Top plays in Monday's games

In a battle of unbeaten boys soccer teams, Norwich Tech fell short against St. Bernard, 1-0, while the Griswold girls volleyball team swept Ledyard for their fifth straight win. Here are other top performances from Monday's scholastic action.

Boys soccer

Norwich Tech: After reeling off five straight wins while outscoring their CTC opponents 18-0, the Warriors came up with a big effort against unbeaten ECC foe St. Bernard only to fall short, 1-0. The Saints’ Aidan Cass scored in the 13th minute and St. Bernard (4-0-1) was able to hold off the Warriors (5-1). Norwich Tech also has matches this season against ECC opponents Montville, Killingly, and Griswold, along with a rematch against the Saints on Oct. 24.

Anthony Purcell and John Fitzgibbons, Killingly: Duo each netted a goal as Killingly (4-1-2) edged New London, 3-2.

Girls volleyball

Kuranda Ruggiero, Griswold: Senior setter collected 22 assists, seven digs and three kills as the Wolverines remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Ledyard.

Abby Matheson, Griswold: Sophomore garnered 11 kills, 10 digs and two blocks in the Wolverines’ 25-22, 25-20, 25-12 sweep against Ledyard.

Emily Aviles, Griswold: Senior had 15 digs in a 3-0 win over Ledyard.

Ruby Logan, Griswold: Junior contributed nine digs in the Wolverines’ win against Ledyard

Caitlyn Flynn, Norwich Tech: Senior had 10 digs but the Warriors (4-4, 3-2 CTC) fell to Prince Tech, 3-0. 

Nancy Johnny, Norwich Tech: Senior dished out 12 assists in a 25-23, 29-27, 25-20 loss against Prince Tech.
