A Montana woman posted images to Facebook of her killing and skinning what she thought was a wolf, but the wolf turned out to be a husky, prompting severe backlash from Facebook users.

Amber Barnes, 36, who posted as “Amber Rose” on Facebook, released several images of her kill, obtained by the Daily Mail. In her first post, she stated that she went into Flathead National Forest looking for a black bear and caught a wolf pup.

After receiving backlash from users, she posted a second time, claiming that what she thought was a wolf was “growling howling and coming at me like it was going to eat me.”

Despite acknowledging that she made a mistake in identifying the animal, Barnes said she “would still have shot it.”

“So please remove all your post thinking I just shot and killed someone’s pet!” she posted. “I am human did I make a mistake thinking it was a hybrid wolf pup however there are no charges against me as I did NOT break any laws!!! I’m not a cruel individual just put killing people pets!”

The husky she killed was one of 11 dogs found in the area of Doris Creek in Flathead National Park, where Barnes shot the animal, according to a press release from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. Several of the dogs tested positive for parvovirus, an illness that typically affects canines’ stomachs and intestines.
