CHICAGO — More than 20 Chicago chefs are teaming up to host a fundraiser dinner Wednesday to benefit relief efforts in Puerto Rico as the island recovers from Hurricane Fiona.
The 6-9 p.m. Wednesday event, Chicago Chefs Cook for Puerto Rico, will feature music, cocktails and a range of food at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture. Tickets are $155 per person and can be bought at the door or on the museum’s website.
About a week after Hurricane Fiona made landfall, tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans remain without power. The hurricane also damaged crops, likely causing significant losses for Puerto Rican agricultural industry, according to organizers.
Founded by chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen is working to provide meals to communities without power and water.
Museum CEO Billy Ocasio donated use of the building for Wednesday’s event.
“Food brings people together, and with Chicago Chefs Cook for Puerto Rico, some of the top chefs in Chicago are coming together to help feed our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters while they recover from the devastation of another hurricane,” Ocasio said in the news release.
The museum hosted a similar fundraiser last week where chefs rallied to raise more than $110,000 to combat the humanitarian crisis in Tigray, Ethiopia.
