ANDY: BEHIND THE GOVERNORS RACE IT COULD BE SAID THE MOST-WATCHED RACE IS THE RACE FOR OKLAHOMA’S NEXT STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION. KOCO 5 NEWS AND AMBER INTEGRATED FOUND THIS IS THE ONLY STATEWIDE RACE WHERE THE DEMOCRAT IS IN THE LEAD. DEMOCRAT JENA NELSON HAS A FIVE POINT LEAD OVER REPUBLICAN RYAN WALTERS, THE CURRENT SECRETARY OF EDUCATION. NELSON 49%, WALTERS 44%. LET’S BREAK THIS DOWN BY PARTY. FOR REPUBLICANS, 71% SUPPORT WALTERS, 22% SUPPORT NELSON. ACROSS THE AISLE, ONLY 8% SUPPORT WALTERS, WHILE 89% BACK NELSON. A MAJORITY OF INDEPENDENTS SUPPORT NELSON, SPECIFICALLY 57%. WHEN IT COMES TO OTHER STATEWIDE RACES, THIS ONE STANDS OUT BECAUSE A DEMOCRAT IS IN THE LEAD. LOOK AT THESE OTHER RACES. Among likely voters, a KOCO 5-Amber Integrated poll found that Nelson leads Walters 49% to 44%. The race for state superintendent marks the only one statewide where the Democrat is in the lead.

Behind the gubernatorial race, it could be said the most-watched race in Oklahoma is for state superintendent.

Seventy-one percent of Republicans support Walters, and 22% support Nelson. Across the aisle, only 8% of Democrats support the Oklahoma education secretary, and 89% support Nelson.
