Early Tuesday clouds clear off by noon, leaving Portland sunny with a high of 82

Portland will see temps in the low 80s Tuesday before rain arrives Wednesday morning.

Portland weather will begin a transition from the warm and sunny days seen since the weekend to clouds and cooler temperatures starting Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service says the upper level high pressure ridge that’s been hanging over the Pacific Northwest will weaken and move eastward Tuesday allowing low clouds to move in from the coast.

Portland will start the morning with a few clouds, but they should clear away by midday leaving mostly sunny skies. The high will be near about 82 degrees.

High temperatures will take a nosedive of about 12 degrees by Wednesday as cooler air and light rain show up overnight. The coast will see rain starting late Tuesday night. Portland’s rain should arrive by Wednesday morning. We may even see some patchy fog before noon. High temperatures will only make it to about 70.

Winds may kick up in the afternoon as the cold front moves through. The beaches could see gusts of up to 40 mph. Inland areas likely won’t have strong gusts, but the afternoon could be breezy.

Shower chances continue into Thursday. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, and high temperatures will stay cool. A high of near 70 is likely. Showers should end by Thursday evening.

Just how much rain might we see? Not really that much. Overall totals could be 0.10-0.30 inches in the Willamette Valley, Hood River valley, and in Lane County. The coast, Coast Range, and parts of the Cascades could see more than a half inch. This should help with the work firefighters are doing on area wildfires, but it won’t be a soaking rainstorm.

By Friday clouds will have backed off and the weather service is expecting warmer and dryer weather going into the weekend. Saturday is likely to be the warmest day with temperature again reaching into the low 80s.
