Mother of 3 fatally shot while traveling through L.A.’s Chesterfield Square neighborhood

A mother of three was shot and killed while riding in an SUV through the Chesterfield Square neighborhood of Los Angeles Monday night.

The incident was reported around 11:35 p.m. as three women were traveling westbound on Slauson Avenue in a black SUV, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Gonzalez said.

Someone shot at the SUV multiple times, striking the victim who was sitting in a back passenger seat.

One of the other women in the vehicle called 911 as the SUV came to a stop near St. Andrews Place.

“Apparently, they ended up here. The fire department responded and they removed her from her vehicle and placed her on the sidewalk to try to save her,” Officer Gonzalez said.

Family members identified the victim as 30-year-old BreYanna Bailey.

“I don’t understand. I don’t understand,” Katrina Taylor, the victim’s cousin, said. “You know, how could a person just shoot into a vehicle when you don’t even know who you’re shooting?”

They said the women were coming back from a late dinner and described the shooting as a senseless act of violence.

“She did not deserve it. She did not deserve this,” Taylor added. “A mother of three beautiful children, an auntie, daughter. She’s not only my first cousin, she’s my god-baby. That’s how sweet she was. What is worth for us to continue to kill ourselves? It’s self-demise, you know. It’s self-demise. It need to stop.”

The other two women in the SUV were not injured in the shooting.

No description of the shooter, or shooters, has been released.
