When is Yaya DaCosta coming back to Chicago Med?

Did anybody see this coming? Yaya DaCosta’s decision to leave Chicago Med at the end of season 6 seemed permanent. She was mentioned by name in the season 7 premiere, and her starring role in made it seem as though she’s be tied up indefinitely.

Thankfully, this wasn’t been the case. DaCosta made her triumphant return to Med in the season 8 premiere, and the showrunners have already confirmed that her character, April Sexton, will play a pivotal role in the events that follow.

So when can fans expect to see more of April? We have the answers for you right here.

When is April Sexton coming back to Chicago Med?

In an interview with TV Line, Med showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider said that April will be a steady presence through season 8, and that she will return to the action in episode five. “She will be back in a couple more episodes. She will have a big storyline”, Frolov revealed.

Schneider explained that the timing worked out between DaCosta’s busy schedule and the desire to delve further into the relationship between April and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). There is a lot of unfinished business there, and the actors’ chemistry made it a no-brainer.

"“They love each other”, he stated. “They do. Let’s just say it. [Laughs] But it’s been a long journey for those characters. They’ve been through a lot, and they were very unsure the last time we saw them of where they stood with one another. Ethan had broken them up.”"

Another facet of April’s return is how she has changed. Her experience as a nurse practitioner has changed her approach to life in general, so it will be interesting to see how this subtle change in attitude manifests throughout other parts in her life. We couldn’t be happier to have her back.
