If you’ve been craving an exciting basketball documentary, Netflix is about to answer your call with its upcoming original film The Redeem Team

In the new documentary, Netflix will look to transport viewers back to 2008 when the US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team made a run for the Olympic Gold after falling short from glory four years earlier at the 2004 Olympics.

The new documentary will bring fans unprecedented Olympic footage and behind-the-scenes materials to provide a captivating look at the team building and reflections from the star players and coaches who set the new standard for American basketball.

As confirmed by Netflix, The Redeem Team will be available to stream beginning Friday, Oct. 7, 2023, exclusively on Netflix. Like most Netflix Originals, The Redeem Team will drop at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT making it a perfect watch for those looking for something new to enjoy that weekend on Netflix.

What is the Redeem Team about?

The Redeem Team will tell the story of the 2008 US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team and their request to redeem themselves following their loss at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

"Using unprecedented Olympic footage and behind-the-scenes material, The Redeem Team tells the story of the US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team’s quest for gold at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 following the previous team’s shocking performance four years earlier in Athens. The documentary offers a fascinating portrait of team building and features insightful interviews with athletes and coaches from Dwyane Wade and LeBron James to Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, who reflect on how The Redeem Team set a new standard for American basketball."

The Redeem Team is the name associated with the 2008 US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team which featured Camelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and more top players from the NBA. The team consisted of the following 12 players:

  • Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets
  • Carlos Boozer from the Utah Jazz
  • Chris Bosh from the Toronto Raptors
  • Kobe Bryant from the Los Angeles Lakers
  • Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic
  • LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks

The All-Star caliber team was led by head coach Mike Krzyzewski, managing director Jerry Colangelo, and assistant coaches Jim Boeheim, Mike D’Antoni and Nate McMillan. Sheldon Bruns joined the team as Team Physician with Keith Jones and Casey Smith accompanying them as the team’s official Athletic Trainers.
