Long Islanders monitor Ian as monster storm churns toward Florida

Although Ian is not expected to have a significant impact on the tri-state area, Long Island relatives are worried about friends and relatives in Florida.

Hurricane Ian is set to gain even more strength and hit Florida's west coast as a Category 4 storm by Wednesday.
News 12 Long Island's Jenn Seelig was outside Macarthur Airport in Ronkonkoma where people are flying in from Florida and some are heading down this morning.
Others are going in the opposite direction, and heading south this morning.
Many airlines have warned travel could be disrupted by the storm.
The Red Cross tells News 12 they are also sending some Long Islanders down to Florida to assist.
Tampa International Airport is closing at 5 p.m.
Once the storm leaves Florida and the South it is expected to significantly weaken.  The tri-state area may see some rain from the remnants by this weekend.
