Crawford County Football Power Poll: Despite a loss, Eagles still on top in Week 7

Our top team finally joined the rest of the county with a number in the loss column. And though Colonel Crawford lost for the first time, two others picks up wins — one for the first time.

Let's see how the Crawford County Football Power Poll looks in Week 7.

1. Colonel Crawford (5-1)

There was absolutely no way the Eagles were dropping after losing for the first time this season 7-3 to No. 3 in the state Carey. It was everything fans could've asked for, a true defensive battle of the best. It does mean the Northern 10 title is now out of reach with Colonel Crawford needing one of Mohawk, Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky or Seneca East to knock off the Blue Devils in the final weeks, while the Eagles simultaneously need to win out.

With a prime opportunity to bounce back this week with Upper Sandusky coming to town, look for the Eagles to get back on track.

2. Galion (3-3)

What a win for the Tigers last week over rival Shelby! Since starting 1-2 in nonleague play, Galion has won two of three Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference games and is in a position to pounce on a league title should Clear Fork — the Tigers' only league loss — slip up in the final four weeks.

A good test awaits this week with Ontario making the trip to Unkrich Stadium. The last time these teams met it was a 7-6 Tigers win on the Warriors' home turf.

3. Buckeye Central (3-3)

A 3-0 start has been followed by an 0-3 record in Northern 10 play. The Bucks went toe-to-toe with Seneca East last weekend before the Tigers pulled away late for a three-score win. Buckeye Central was able to move the ball well on the Tigers defense and will look to carry some momentum into this week's county clash.

Buckeye Central hosts Wynford with the Bucks seeking their first win over the Royals since 1995.

Wynford junior Ashton Warren intercepts a pass intended for Bucyrus senior Mason Gebhardt to end the game Friday. The Royals won on the road, 20-14.

4. Wynford (1-5)

Speaking of … Wynford is winless no more. The Royals fended off a resilient Bucyrus in the Battle for the Copper Kettle and made sure it's coming back to Holmes Township for the 25th year in a row.

As mentioned above, Wynford makes a trip to Dutchtown to face the Bucks hoping to make it 27 straight.

5. Bucyrus (1-5)

It was a chance Bucyrus had been waiting for since 1997, but it didn't pan out. With chances to beat rival Wynford late, Bucyrus came up just short as the Copper Kettle left the grounds once again. But it may give the team some confidence with four games left to play and only one — maybe two — winnable games remaining.

This week could be one of those. Bucyrus hosts a porous Seneca East defense that just gave up more than 300 yards to Buckeye Central.

6. Crestline (0-6)

The woeful season chugs along slowly. Crestline's most recent loss was a 36-0 blanking by Ridgedale on Saturday. The team has shifted into more of a spread offense instead of the triple option it used in the first half of the year.

Nothing gets any easier this week with the best team on the Bulldogs' schedule — undefeated Waynesfield-Goshen — their foe. And, it's on the road.
