The Chicago White Sox find themselves in a perilous position after having lost six straight games.

They were swept by the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians and later by the woeful Detroit Tigers over this past weekend.

They’ve now lost six straight games, and it’s very likely that soon, they’ll find themselves eliminated from Wild Card contention as well, as they sit 7.5 games back of the Seattle Mariners.

After yesterday’s game, White Sox interim manager Miguel Cairo, who has been filling in for Tony La Russa while he deals with health issues, was very blunt about the state of the team, even going as far as saying that Sunday was his team’s worst effort of the homestand.

Cairo Calls Out A Lack Of Effort

The White Sox have been playing a very uninspiring brand of baseball lately.

So naturally, Cairo isn’t going to be pleased about the situation, and he shouldn’t be.

The White Sox are about to hit rock bottom, if they haven’t already.

But this is about as blunt as you can get when offering an assessment about your team.

This team has underachieved all season long after being the overwhelming favorites to win the AL Central.

They won it last year with 93 regular season wins.

Now, the most they can finish with is 85 wins, and even that likely won’t save them from missing the postseason.

They would need a lot of help from the other side, help that likely isn’t coming.

At this point, Cairo’s assessment probably won’t do any good.

But at the very least, he sent a message to his club to help motivate them for 2023, should they ultimately be eliminated from postseason contention, which at this point seems inevitable.
