State troopers arrested a 32-year-old Brewerton man in connection with a crash on Interstate 81 in Cicero Saturday evening.
According to New York State Police, 52-year-old Dawn Edwards of Brewerton was traveling southbound around 9:20 PM when her passenger & son, 32-year-old Kevin Somers, became upset with Edwards. He grabbed the steering wheel, forcing the SUV to veer off the roadway and crash into several trees.
Members of the Brewerton Fire department had to extract Somers from the damaged car after the crash. He was then taken into police custody at the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment. Troopers say Sommers damaged his leg restraints when he was taken to the station.
Kevin Somers was also accused of ramming his truck into the Justice Center two weeks prior to the crash, leading Sheriff's deputies on a pursuit, and crashing into several cars.
Dawn Edwards was taken to update Hospital to receive treatment for severe back injuries. Her son, Kevin Somers, is Charged with 3rd-degree assault, 2nd-degree Reckless endangerment, and 4th-degree criminal mischief.
