...The Flood Warning continues for the following river and locations
in Indiana...

Wabash River at Lafayette, Montezuma, and Covington.

.Minor flooding continues on the Wabash River at Lafayette, and it
will begin at Montezuma and Covington late this evening. The river
crested less than one foot above flood stage at Lafayette late this
morning, and the level will drop below flood stage overnight
tonight.  Crests at Montezuma and Covington will occur Friday.  New
flood warnings may be needed Friday for Hutsonville and Riverton in
anticipation of possible flooding of about one foot or less that
could start Friday night or Saturday morning and last as late as
Monday.

Upcoming rainfall Friday into Saturday is expected to have
negligible effect on area waterways.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths
occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges,
dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream,
even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find another route
over higher ground.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Wabash River at Montezuma.

* WHEN...Until Sunday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, Several hundred acres of bottomlands along
the right bank from the mouth of Sugar Creek to northern edge of
Montezuma begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:45 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 13.9 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
late this evening to a crest of 14.7 feet tomorrow evening.
It will then fall below flood stage early Sunday morning.
- Flood stage is 14.0 feet.

VCSC is one step closer to adopting its 2023 year budget

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - It's budgeting season for school corporations across the Wabash Valley. Right here in Vigo County, the Board of Trustees is one step closer to finalizing this year's numbers.

On Monday, the Vigo County School Corporation Board of Trustees conducted a public hearing on the nearly $168 million 2023 advertised budget. It was the second of the three-step adoption process.

The advertised budget is mainly made up of the education and operation funds. The two make up $144 million.

Superintendent Rob Haworth says that when the process is complete the numbers should be very close to the current budget. He says it's due to the cost-saving measures they've been implementing, as well as right-sizing the district. 

Following the hearing, the regularly scheduled board meeting took place. There were several things of note on the agenda.

It began with a service project presentation led by students from all three VCSC high schools. Student leaders highlighted all of the service activities their respective school has done so far, and what they have planned for the future.

A new health and dental insurance recommendation was also presented to the board. The corporation would make the move from Anthem to United Health -- officials say it's due to cost concerns.

Finally, there were a number of policy updates up for approval.

These include bus drivers and cell phone use, student-staff relations, schools and governmental agencies, and information security.

A final reading on these policies will take place on Oct. 24th.

The next board meeting is Oct. 10th.
