September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and one Brooklyn health system is using this month to host several blood drives.
The goal of the drives is to help educate the public on sickle cell, and to get blood to treat those with sickle cell through the drives.
One doctor says that patients with sickle cell need comprehensive care, and the blood drives hopefully will help.
There are three hospitals involved in this initiative - Kingsbrook Hospital & Interfaith Hospitals, which both held their respective blood drives today, and Brookdale Hospital, which has their blood drive scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m.
