East Texas country club manager killed in crash

Hollytree Country Club's general manager, Eric Eitel, 53, was killed in a head-on crash on Sept. 24.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Hollytree Country Club's general manager Eric Eitel was killed in a head-on crash on Saturday on State Highway 155 North in Winona.

The wreck involved two vehicles, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Darrell T. Lewis, 21, and a 2010 Nissan 370Z driven by Eitel, 53.

According to DPS, the investigation indicated that the Tahoe was traveling south of Hwy 155 while the Nissan was traveling north. Lewis drove his Tahoe on the wrong side of the road hitting Eitel, said officials.

"Our thoughts and prayers are first and foremost with his wife Robyn and his three sons. As well, we are grieving alongside the club staff, who have suffered tremendously with this tragedy. Words cannot express our loss of Hollytree's leader and friend," Hollytree Country Club statement said.

Funeral arrangements for Eitel are underway and an official announcement with details will be send through a message, Hollytree Country Club said.
