Police identify man killed in shooting outside NE Portland hotel

A fatal shooting in a Howard Johnson parking lot in Northeast Portland killed a man on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Police have identified the man killed in an early morning shooting outside a Northeast Portland hotel as Martese Oliver, 26, of Washington.

The shooting in the parking lot of Howard Johnson hotel at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard was reported about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. Oliver died at the scene.

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide by gunshot wound.

No one has been arrested in the fatal shooting — which marks Portland’s 72nd homicide so far this year.

In 2022, four other men have been killed within a one-mile radius of the most recent homicide — including two who were shot to death near the Madison Suites motel at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Milton Street and one who died a couple weeks after an assault outside the Evergreen Inn & Suites
