DISPLAYED. THE NEBRASKA RED DOGS IS A WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TEAM PROVIDING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. THE CHANCE TO PLAY A SPORT. BUT THE PREP TEAM MAY NOT BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN TOURNAMENTS THIS SEASON AS KETV NEWSWATCH 7 JONAH GILMORE REPORTS, THEY’RE HOPING THEIR PRACTICE ISN’T IN VAIN. WE’RE DOING A LOT OF DRILLS TODAY. WE’RE LIKE PRACTICING, CATCHING HAYDEN ABIGAIL IN CAMDEN. ENJOY BEING ON THE COURT. THE RED DOGS ARE A WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TEAM. NOT LETTING ANYTHING SLOW THEM DOWN. WE COME TO PRACTICE EVERY SATURDAY. WE GO TO TOURNAMENTS THIS SEASON. THOSE TOURNAMENTS WITH THE PREP TEAM MAYBE ON HOLD. COACH PATRICK GUSTAFSSON SAYS THE TEAM NEEDS A FEW MORE PLAYERS TO COMPETE. DO WHAT I CAN FOR THEM AND GIVE THEM GOOD OPPORTUNITIES. CHRISTMAS IN HOPES THOSE OPPORTUNITIES PRESENT THEMSELVES, CALLING ON OTHERS TO JOIN THE TEAM. ANY KID THAT HAS ANY SORT DISABILITY THAT PREVENTS THEM FROM PLAYING ABLE BODIED SPORTS WOULD QUALIFY TO BE ABLE TO PLAY. CAMDEN BROUGHT TWO HAS BEEN ON THE TEAM FOR TWO YEARS, LIKE CAMDEN AND HAYDEN. ABIGAIL HARVEY IS HOPING THE BALL IS IN THEIR COURT SO THEY CAN COMPETE AND TAKE IT TO THE HOOP THAT THAT ARE ON THE SCENE. THEY AREN’T GOING TO JUDGE YOU FOR YOUR DISABILITY. The Nebraska Red Dawgs is a wheelchair basketball team providing children with disabilities a chance to play the sport.The organization has two teams — the varsity team and the prep team.This year the prep team may not be able to play in any tournaments because it does not have enough players."Any kids that has any sort of a physical disability that prevents them from playing able body sports would qualify to be able play," said Patrick Christiansen, Nebraska Red Dawgs basketball team coach.At the 2019 national championship, the prep team placed fourth in the nation."People that are on this team, they aren't going to judge you for your disability they're going to accept you and we love each other," said Abigail Harvey, a player for the Nebraska Red Dawgs.The team practices Saturday mornings at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.To sign up, follow the link below:https://nebraskaadaptivesports.org/youth-activities/ne-red-dawgs/
