SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a violent attack and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 6:30a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a stabbing that occurred in the 400 block of West Central in Wichita, according to Officer Chad Ditch.

While en route to the call, officers learned a neighbor transported the 41-year-old male victim to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed 29-year-old Trey Schulz of Wichita and the victim were in a verbal altercation when Schulz stabbed the victim over 30 times.

Police arrested Schulz on requested charges of attempted murder.

The victim and Schulz are known to each other, and this is not a random incident. The victim has since been released from the hospital, according to Ditch. Schulz is being held on a $150,000 bond, according to online jail records.

On Sept. 9, police arrested Schultz on requested charges of criminal carrying a weapon; bludgeon, sand club knucklee; criminal trespass and drug possession. He had a previous drug conviction in Sumner County in 2015, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
