Section III names former CNY AD as new interim executive director

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Auburn athletic director Tamela Ray has been selected as interim executive of Section III athletics.

Ray will begin her role on Friday, working on a part-time basis alongside current executive director John Rathbun through the date of his retirement on Dec. 31.

“I am very fortunate to continue supporting this amazing athletic organization. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Section III in this capacity, and I look forward to working with all of Section III’s athletic administrators, coaches, and student-athletes,” Ray said in a statement.

Ray worked as athletic director for the Maroons from 1996-2021. Section III’s board of directors will continue the next steps for hiring a permanent leader.
