Car owner learns vehicle was stolen after deputies find it in Sandy River

TROUTDALE, Ore. —
Deputies say they found a stolen car in the Sandy River on Monday, adding that the vehicle’s owner didn’t know it was stolen until they were contacted by the sheriff’s Office.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol and Dive Team were called out Monday morning to help get a vehicle out of the Sandy River.
“When a deputy called them [the car’s owner], they were surprised to learn their car wasn't parked outside their home,” the sheriff’s office said.
According to Portland Police, there were nearly 7,400 car thefts reported between January and August of 2022.
During that same timeframe in 2021, there were just over 5,000 reports of car thefts.
