Syracuse police have arrested one of three people believed to be involved in a double homicide at a Burnet Avenue apartment building in August.
Police have charged Jamel Weston with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting deaths of Alexis Sellin and Jami Crawford. Police say Weston and two others were involved in the murder on August 21, 2022.
The murder was not discovered until August 24, and a young child was left alive in the apartment for those days with the two bodies. Family has said the child has developmental disabilities. Authorities say he does not appear to have long-lasting complications from this situation.
According to a criminal complaint, investigators used cell phone analysis and video evidence to find the specific time of the murders and identify a vehicle involved. That vehicle was tracked via video to other locations to add to the evidence. Through that investigation, detectives determined three people were involved.
Police were called to the apartment on the day of the murders for a noise complaint from a neighbor, but the suspects were already gone by the time police arrived and the noise complaint did not specify where the sound came from specifically. A home health aide made the discovery of the bodies days later while coming to visit with the young child.
