Two men were arrested after a CHP K9 officer finds over 100 pounds of meth during a traffic stop.
The California Highway Patrol said on Sept. 23, 2022, at around 3:50 p.m., on southbound Highway 99, near Highway 65, a CHP officer pulled over a Toyota Corolla for tinted windows.
During the contact, the officer smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the car and noted several additional indicators of criminal activity, according to CHP.
They said the officer deployed his K9 partner to check the car and got a positive alert.
CHP said during the probable cause search, the officer found about 100 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in the trunk of the car.
Two men, 23-year-old Efrain Baez of Los Angeles County, and 29-year-old Eduardo Melendres of Riverside County, were arrested and booked into the Kern County jail on the charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale, and transportation of methamphetamine across noncontiguous counties.
