AUSTIN (KXAN) — Fans going to one of the Harry Styles concerts at the Moody Center will also get to hear performances from several musicians based here in Austin.
The concert venue announced four local acts will have chances to showcase their music for the Truist Local Artist Concert Series. They’ll perform during a preshow before each concert held by Styles. His Austin mini-residency kicked off Sunday night to a sold-out crowd.
Here are the names of the Austin acts and the dates they’ll perform ahead of the Harry Styles Love on Tour stops in the city:
- Flora & Fawna – Sept. 26 and 27, 6-7:30 p.m.
- Girls Rock Austin – Sept. 28, 6-7 p.m.
- DOSSEY – Sept. 29, 6-7:30 p.m.
- Susannah Joffe – Oct. 2 and 3, 6-7:30 p.m.
The performances happen on the Hulu Stage at the Dell Technologies Plaza outside the Moody Center.
Flora & Fawna
Singer Lili Hickman and producer/guitarist Mason Ables make up the Austin pop band Flora & Fawna. They formed in 2019 and only got the chance recently to ramp up their live performances again after the COVID-19 pandemic hobbled their debut. However, they’re more than making up for it now.
Flora & Fawna performed for the Harry Styles’ fans entering into the Moody Center Sunday night, and they’re doing it again Monday.
“To play for that many sets of ears is an insane opportunity, and everyone’s just excited,” Ables said during an interview Monday afternoon.
“Everybody’s in a good mood,” Hickman added, “[Harry Styles] has the best fanbase. Everyone’s happy and excited, so to be able to share a little bit of that is just amazing.”
They said their band’s sound is inspired by Styles and other artists like The xx and Charlie XCX.
“If you want to dance, if you want to sweat, if you want to come home with a little glitter on you,” Hickman said, “come find us.”
Not only is Flora & Fawna performing ahead of the first two Harry Styles concerts in Austin, Hickman and Ables are also gearing up for a set at next month’s Austin City Limits Music Festival. Zilker Park closed Monday so that organizers could finish preparations for the thousands of people to attend the event.
“I’m so happy for our music in any way related, touching Harry Styles,” Hickman said. “We are so happy to be here, and we’re happy that more people will hopefully get to listen to our music.”
