HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Two firefighters sustained first and second-degree burn injuries while battling a warehouse fire Monday afternoon.

High Point Fire Chief, Thomas Reid said the two firefighters were burned on parts of their hands, faces, and ears while trying to battle a fire caused by a dust collection system in the High Point Furniture Industries warehouse.

Reid said the two firefighters were injured while crews were trying to clean out the silo where the dust is stored, a dust cloud created a “flash fire.”

“There’s no warnings whatsoever before it actually flashed,” said Ried.

Ried said one of the firefighters was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center and released shortly after. While the other was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem and released later in the evening. All of their injuries were non-life threatening.

“It’s a strenuous job, it’s a tough job and we just hope for the best for them and get them healed up and get them back to work,” said Reid.

Reid said the next step will be to evaulate the scenerio to find out what transpired that caused the injuires to the firefighters.
