Man implants car 'key' in hand

Could you imagine unlocking and starting your car with the wave of a hand?

That’s what a Michigan man has the ability to do with an RFID chip implanted in his hand. The chip is equipped to download apps – including one for Tesla vehicles.

This week on “Something Offbeat”, host Mike Rogers is joined by Texas Christian University religion professor Dr. Sage Elwell, who specializes in the intersection of the digital and theological. They’ll tackle questions about the future of technology in our bodies and see if we have anything to fear from these developments.

“It's tricky,” said Elwell. “On one hand, you know, we as a species, we’ve been using technology to extend our human abilities since the first woman or man picked up a rock and used it as a hammer. So, we’ve been doing this since the beginning.”

We’ll also hear from Brandon Dalaly, the man with the implanted chip, who was featured on a recent segment from Audacy’s KNX Radio in Los Angeles.

“What’s really cool is the chip comes preloaded with everything you need to be able to do a tap-to-pay transaction with your hand,” he explained.
