We're getting towards the end of the year and for the most part, it's felt normal at restaurants and bars in Western New York.

COVID-19 is still there but there are no current restrictions as the food service industry in the Buffalo region tries to make up for the closures in 2020 and 2021.

Over the last 24 months, many places have closed either due to the pandemic or for other reasons, and is always tough when a locally-owned restaurant or bar closes. This region really does love and adore the local restaurants and bars and is always a sad day when a place we love closes.

There's both sad and optimism with a restaurant and store in Niagara County this week.

Buffalo Business First is reporting that Gordie Harper's Bazaar in Newfane will close on January 1st, 2023. The restaurant is located on Lockport-Olcott Road.

Harper, the owner, plans to retire and while as of now the Bazaar (which houses a restaurant, country store, pub and other vendors) will close on January 1st.

However, Buffalo Business First says that the manager Tracey Brewer, says that the building is for sale and that the vendors could lease the property from the owner. There's also a chance that Harper could change his mind once we get to the spring.

A ton of people in Niagara County love Gordie Harper's Bazaar, which has been in operation for 25 years. They have a large following of people who visit the restaurant, store or vendors and this is sad news.

However, the door being left open with the sale and potential changing of minds at least gives customers hope that the establishment will reopen next year.
