Four dates to remember this election season

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — We’re just a little more than a month away from the November midterm elections.

Here are some dates that election officials in Vigo County say are important to remember for Indiana residents.

The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11, with early voting beginning the following day, Wednesday, October 12.

In Vigo County, the Annex and Haute City Center will serve as 28-day voting centers. Additional centers will open up on November 1 for the week leading up to election day.

Supervisor of the Vigo County Absentee Voter Office, Jennifer Lewis, says there are benefits to voting early.

“If you don’t know what your schedule is going to be like, you never know if an emergency may happen. it’s good to get it out and done,” Lewis said. “You don’t know how busy it may be on election day, or you never know what can happen come election day if you wait until the last minute.”

In addition to encouraging Hoosiers to vote, Lewis said that the clerk’s office is always in need of volunteers.

“I feel like we can always use more poll workers and also when you’re a poll worker, you get to see the ins and outs of how elections work so if you have any apprehensions or anything like that, come be a poll worker and learn a little bit about how elections are run.”

If you would like to request an absentee ballot, the deadline to do so is October 27 at 11:59 p.m. with election day set for Tuesday, November 8.
