Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - As Hurricane Ian hurls towards the Gulf Coast, people are beginning their preparations all up the East Coast. Though Virginia should be well out of the way of the storm's most dangerous effects, meteorologists are warning that Ian should still be on Virginians' radar.

The storm should likely be considerably weaker by the time it arrives in Virginia, but it could still bring heavy rainfall. According to NBC12's Andrew Freidan, the risks that seem most likely at this point are minor coastal flooding and moderate to heavy rainfall.

Things are still to early to predict the exact amount of precipitation to expect or which areas of the state are likely to be hit hardest. In parts of Virginia, some heavier rainfall would be a welcome remedy to this summer's dryness. Other regions, especially in western counties like Buchanan, were hit hard by flooding this summer and are still recovering from the damage they suffered in July.
