Infinix has launched its first-gen 180W ThunderCharge smartphone via an online retail partner - revealing in the process that it will also challenge the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra with a 200MP main rear camera. Then again, that is where the potentially top-end specs stop with this new Zero Ultra.

Infinix has now announced that its new and potentially world-beating 180W ThunderCharge technology will have its first outing in the Zero Ultra. The new smartphone is also now tipped to be the first to follow Motorola's Edge 30 Ultra in securing a cutting-edge 200MP sensor for its primary rear-facing lens.

This spec also leaves the Zero Ultra looking not unlike its Motorola rival, with a camera hump dominated by 1 enlarged lens and surrounded by 2 smaller back-up shooters yet to be introduced in full by the OEM.

On that note, Infinix has yet to mention whether the smartphone uses the same Samsung ISOCELL HP1 as the 30 Ultra, or if it has an Omnivision alternative instead.

Then again, we do now know that the potentially class-leading main camera has OIS. On the other hand, the Zero Ultra may or may not turn out to be a total flagship-killer, with its mid-range Dimensity 920 SoC to drive a 120Hz "waterfall" display with no mention of OLED as a panel type.

Despite these incomplete specs (it is not even clear which OS the device runs out of the box), Infinix now lists the Zero Ultra on AliExpress at a price of no less than US$999 for a single 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage SKU.

One would be forgiven for wondering if this price is a placeholder of some kind, especially since the Edge 30 Ultra has been announced at a starting cost that equates to ~US$870 today.
